Obergurgl in Ötztal

Obergurgl is part of Sölden municipality and is located in Lower Ötztal Valley at 1,927 m above sea level, making it the highest located church village in Austria. Gurgl was first mentioned in documents around 1250, with the earliest traces of settlement dating back to 7500 BC. In 1960 the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road was completed and the hotel village of Hochgurgl built. Since then, Obergurgl in Ötztal has been a winter sports centre par excellence. Hotel Josl is located in the heart of this, in close vicinity to the slopes and lifts.
