The climate in the Ötz Valley is very special. This is due in part to the 5 distinct levels at different altitudes that go up from the entrance of the valley to Obergurgl. Each of them has climatic and scenic characteristics meaning that even a few grape vines grow at the entrance to the Ötz Valley. Before the entrance of the valley is the Tschirgant peak, which protects the Ötz Valley from the cold north wind. Furthermore, the valley is located in the rain shadow of the Alps and therefore counts as one of the driest areas in the Alpine region.
