The winter sports resort of Obergurgl is 1,927 metres above sea level and during the 20th century it developed from being a secluded mountain village into the exceptional Ötz Valley tourism area that it is today. The construction of the first ski lift in 1949 laid the foundation stone for the stylish winter sports tourism that we know and love today.
